Sometimes, a Technical Support rep may ask you to share a screen recording to help troubleshoot an issue on your iPhone or iPad.
What is Screen Recording?
A screen recording is a video of your screen — it shows what you tap, swipe, and do on your device.
It’s very helpful for showing:
App problems or error messages
Strange behavior on your screen
Anything you want to show instead of explain
Step 1: Add Screen Recording to Control Center
First, you need to make sure the Screen Recording button is in your Control Center.
1. Open Settings
Tap the Settings app (gray gear icon).
2. Go to Control Center
Scroll down and tap Control Center.
3. Check Included Controls
At the top, you’ll see Included Controls.
👉 If you already see Screen Recording listed here — great! You’re ready to go.
👉 If not, continue below.
4. Add Screen Recording
Scroll down to More Controls.
Find Screen Recording (icon looks like a red circle with a white dot inside).
Tap the green plus (+) sign next to Screen Recording.
5.Done!
Tap Settings (top left) to exit.
Result: The Screen Recording button is now added to your Control Center.
Step 2: Find the Control Center
The Control Center is where you find quick shortcuts like Wi-Fi, flashlight, and now — screen recording.
To open the Control Center:
On iPhones with Face ID (no Home button) → Swipe down from the top-right corner.
On iPhones with a Home button or iPads → Swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
You’ll see your shortcut buttons here — like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and now Screen Recording (looks like a target).
Step 3: Start a Screen Recording
Ready to record? Here’s how:
1. Open Control Center (swipe as explained above).
2. Tap the Screen Recording button
It’s the circle-within-a-circle icon.
A 3-second countdown will begin, then recording starts.
3. Do what you need to record
Navigate through the app or screen you want to capture.
Step 4: Stop the Screen Recording
When you’re done:
Tap the red status bar or red clock at the top of your screen.
Tap Stop when asked.
Your screen recording is saved to Photos!
You can open the Photos app and find it there, ready to share.
Extra Tip: Record with Microphone Sound (Optional)
Want to record your voice or sounds?
In the Control Center, press and hold the Screen Recording button.
Tap Microphone On before you start recording.
