When you plug in your ClickFree drive and tap "Backup Everything", the app begins its initial scan and save process. This includes:
-
Scanning your entire device for all photos, videos, and contacts.
-
Organizing and preparing each file to be safely stored.
-
Copying every file from your phone to the ClickFree drive, one by one.
-
Ensuring nothing is missed or duplicated, even if the app is paused or the screen goes dark.
Depending on how many files you have, this can take anywhere from a few minutes to over an hour.
Why It Might Feel Slow:
Several things can affect backup speed, including:
-
Large number of photos or videos
(Some users have 10,000+ files, especially if they’ve never backed up before.) -
File sizes (Videos and high-resolution photos take longer to process.)
-
Older phones may transfer data more slowly than newer devices.
-
Screen timeout or device sleep can cause interruptions (make sure your screen stays on during the process).
Good News: Future Backups Are Much Faster!
Once that first full backup is complete, ClickFree remembers what it already saved. The next time you plug it in:
-
It only looks for new or changed files.
-
This makes follow-up backups much faster and shorter (usually just a few minutes!).
Tips to Speed Things Up:
-
Keep your screen from going dark (change auto-lock settings if needed).
-
Plug in your phone and keep it charging during backup.
-
Stay in the app while it's backing up — switching apps or locking your screen may slow things down.
-
If it seems stuck, try unplugging and reconnecting the ClickFree drive — the app will pick up right where it left off.
Still Having Issues?
If it’s been more than 2 hours and it doesn’t seem to be making progress:
-
Close and reopen the ClickFree app.
-
Make sure your phone’s software is up to date.
-
Try restarting your phone, then begin the backup again.
