If you see a “Traceback” or error message when using Clickfree on your Mac, don’t worry.
It looks technical, but it usually just means the app doesn’t have the right permissions or is holding onto old settings. The steps below will walk you through fixing it.
Why Does This Happen?
macOS sometimes blocks apps like Clickfree from reading external drives until you give permission.
Old app settings or support files can also cause conflicts.
Occasionally, the app looks for something that isn’t there (like a missing file) and shows this error instead of finishing.
The good news: your Clickfree device itself is fine — we just need to reset the app so macOS can talk to it properly.
How to Fix It
1. Quit Clickfree completely
If the Clickfree app is open, right-click its icon in the dock and choose Quit.
2. Check app permissions
On your Mac, open System Settings.
Go to Privacy & Security.
-
Click Files and Folders.
If you see Clickfree in the list, make sure it’s turned ON.
-
Still in Privacy & Security, click Full Disk Access.
If Clickfree is listed, turn it ON here too.
You may be asked for your password to approve the change.
3. Clear old app data
Open Finder.
Press ⌘ + Shift + G (Go to Folder).
-
Type in:
~/Library/Application Support/Delete the Clickfree folder if you see it.
-
Do the same with:
~/Library/Preferences/Delete any files that start with com.clickfree.
Empty your Trash.
4. Reinstall Clickfree
Delete the Clickfree app from your Applications folder.
Download the latest installer from our official site.
Open the installer and follow the prompts.
If macOS shows a warning, choose Open or Allow Anyway.
5. Plug in your Clickfree drive again
Connect it directly to your Mac (avoid USB hubs or adapters if possible).
Open Clickfree.
Wait 10–15 seconds — you should now see your storage space (“Free / Total”) and the app should run without Traceback errors.
Still seeing the error?
Take a screenshot of the error message.
-
Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and grab screenshots of both:
Files and Folders (showing Clickfree)
Full Disk Access (showing Clickfree)
Send those to our support team so we can investigate further.
Summary
“Traceback” looks scary, but it’s usually just a permission or old settings issue.
Giving Clickfree access + reinstalling fresh clears it up most of the time.
If it doesn’t, sharing screenshots with us will help our team fix it quickly.
