If you’d like to erase everything on your Clickfree device and start fresh, you can easily do this using the built-in tools on your Mac — no need to download anything.
This is helpful if:
You’re repurposing or gifting your Clickfree
You want to wipe it after transferring files
The device is showing a format-related error or corruption message
Let’s walk you through it!
Before You Start
Formatting will delete everything on your Clickfree device — so make sure to back up any files you want to keep first.
This guide is for macOS users only (macOS 10.13 and newer).
If you're using Clickfree with both Mac and Windows, we recommend formatting in MS-DOS (FAT32) so it works with both.
Step-by-Step: Format Clickfree on Mac
Step 1: Plug In Clickfree
Insert your Clickfree device into one of your Mac’s USB-C or USB ports.
Wait a few seconds for it to show up on your desktop or in Finder > Locations.
Step 2: Open Disk Utility
You can launch Disk Utility in two quick ways:
Press Command + Space Bar and type Disk Utility, then hit Enter
OROpen Finder > Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility
Step 3: Select the Clickfree Drive
In Disk Utility, look at the left sidebar.
Under External, click once on the name of your Clickfree drive (e.g. “Clickfree Pro” or “Untitled”).
Make sure you’re selecting the correct drive — not “Macintosh HD” or anything internal!
Step 4: Click "Erase"
At the top of the Disk Utility window, click the Erase button.
This brings up the format settings screen.
Step 5: Set Format Options
You’ll be prompted to choose:
Name: (Optional) Give your drive a new name (e.g. “Clickfree”)
Format: Choose MS-DOS (FAT) — this is the same as FAT32 and works best for Clickfree
Scheme: Leave this as GUID Partition Map (if prompted)
Step 6: Confirm & Erase
Click the Erase button to start the format.
This may take a few seconds — once done, you’ll see a confirmation message.
Step 7: Double Check the Format (Optional)
To confirm everything went smoothly:
Right-click the Clickfree icon on your desktop
Choose Get Info
Look for Format: MS-DOS (FAT32) in the pop-up window
All Done!
You’ve now successfully formatted your Clickfree device.
You can now:
Safely remove it (drag it to the Trash or click Eject in Finder)
Reuse it for backups or file transfers as needed
