Locate the Hinged Cover
-
Look closely at the tag and find the small, thin plastic flap. It’s usually at the top or side where the tag appears to have a hinge or a seam.
-
-
Find the Notch or Slot
-
Most key tags have a tiny notch or gap that allows you to slip a fingernail or small tool underneath the cover.
-
-
Insert a Fingernail or Small Tool
-
Gently insert your fingernail or the tip of a small flathead screwdriver (or similar slim object) into the notch.
-
Tip: If it’s too tight, you can carefully wiggle the cover until it starts to lift.
-
-
Lift the Plastic Cover
-
Apply slight upward pressure. The cover is usually hinged, so it should swing open. Don’t force it—just use gentle, steady pressure until it pops up.
-
-
Remove the Label (If Present)
-
Once the cover is open, you can pull out the small piece of paper or card inside. If you’re replacing the label, remove the old one completely.
-
-
Insert or Write Your New Label
-
Write your information on a fresh piece of paper cut to size, or use a label designed for key tags.
-
Place it inside, making sure it’s properly aligned.
-
-
Close the Cover
-
Swing the hinged cover back down until it snaps or clicks into place. Check that the label is still visible and securely held.
-
-
Reattach to Keys (If You Removed It)
-
If you removed the key ring for easier access, thread the ring back through the hole in the tag.
