If you're seeing this error when trying to install, update, or open the Clickfree program, don’t worry — it’s a common Windows security setting issue and can usually be fixed in just a few minutes.
Why is this happening?
Windows may block the file for one of these reasons:
It was downloaded from the internet and marked as unsafe
Your user account doesn’t have full permission to open it
Your antivirus or Windows settings restricted access by mistake
How to Fix the Error Step-by-Step:
You’ll be adjusting file permissions to make sure your computer allows the Clickfree installer to run.
Step 1: Find the Installer File
Open File Explorer
(Click the folder icon in your taskbar, or press Windows key + E)Go to your Downloads folder
This is usually where the Clickfree installer was savedFind the file named something like:
ClickfreeInstaller.exe or SetupClickfree.exe
Step 2: Open File Properties
Right-click the installer file
Choose Properties from the menu
Step 3: Unblock the File (If Needed)
In the Properties window, look near the bottom
If you see a checkbox labeled "Unblock", check it
Click Apply, then OK
Note: If you don’t see an “Unblock” option, that’s okay — move on to the next step.
Step 4: Check Security Permissions
Right-click the installer file again and choose Properties
This time, go to the Security tab at the top
Under Group or user names, click on your Windows user account
(This is usually the name you log in with — like John or Danielle)Click the Edit button just below the list
Step 5: Adjust Permissions
In the new window called Permissions for Setup, make sure your user is selected
Look for the columns under Allow and Deny
Make sure:
✅ All boxes under Allow are checked
❌ All boxes under Deny are unchecked
When done, click Apply and then OK
Click OK again to close the Properties window
Step 6: Try Running the Installer Again
Now go back to the file and double-click it to run the installer.
It should now open normally and allow you to continue with the installation.
Still Getting the Error?
If you followed the steps above and still see the same message:
Try restarting your computer, then try again
Temporarily disable your antivirus and try launching the file (remember to turn it back on afterward)
Make sure you’re using a Windows administrator account
